Co-founders Christopher J. Baione and Matthew J. Baione were named 2023 New York Super Lawyers “Rising Stars.” This distinction isn’t a new one for Pitta & Baione’s partners. Both Christopher and Matthew have been named a personal injury Rising Star for six consecutive years since 2018. The award is a testament to their longstanding commitment to the 9/11 community and their relentless drive to helping those battling 9/11-related illnesses.

Super Lawyers Rising Stars Recognizes Up and Coming Talent in the Legal Field

Only 2.5 percent of all lawyers in the State of New York are named Super Lawyers Rising Stars. Lawyers who earn this distinction are chosen based on the following criteria:

  • Peer nominations
  • Prior verdicts and settlements
  • Other honors and awards
  • Education / employment background
  • Scholarly lectures / publications
  • Other outstanding professional achievements

After all of these factors are considered, a Blue Ribbon Panel of lawyers in their respective area makes the final selection of honorees. Recipients must be younger than 40 years of age.

Award Recognizes Christopher and Matthew Baione’s Leadership and Impact on the 9/11 Community

The Rising Stars Super Lawyer award honors lawyers who are already making a significant impact in the legal industry, despite their young age. Christopher and Matthew have done just that. They have each recovered tens of millions of dollars for VCF claimants, and have resolved cases that other law firms might be too afraid to take on.

Christopher Baione has achieved significant financial recoveries for clients who are battling aggressive cancers and illnesses. Among his successful results is $2 million for an NYPD Police Officer battling brain cancer and $1 million for the family of a Local 282 Teamster who fought a deadly form of lung cancer.

As manager of the firm’s appellate practice, Matthew Baione has helped clients successfully recover compensation for their 9/11-related illnesses after being initially denied. This includes obtaining compensation for a World Trade Center worker whose exposure to 9/11 toxins had previously been disputed, and helping a resident whose 9/11 colon cancer claim had been denied secure compensation.

Both Partners have also become subject matter experts on the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund and World Trade Center Health Program. In addition to speaking to the national media on the issues that most affect those battling 9/11-related illnesses, they also regularly go out into the local community to make sure that anyone who may have been exposed to 9/11 toxins has the tools and resources to get the help they need. Their zealous fight has also helped push for more favorable local and national legislation to ensure that as many people as possible can obtain the compensation they need as they fight the lingering effects of that tragic day.
