August Flentje Named VCF Interim Special Master

During a conference today with VCF attorneys, outgoing VCF Special Master Rupa Bhattacharyya announced that August Flentje has been named VCF Interim Special Master. Flentje will head the VCF until a new Special Master is named as the permanent replacement to Rupa Bhattacharyya. Flentje served as a government attorney his entire career and currently serves as Special Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice (the same agency that oversees the VCF).

As previously announced, Rupa Bhattacharyya is stepping down at the end of this month. Flentje will start at the beginning of May and an interview process to select the new permanent Special Master will be underway. We thank Rupa Bhattacharyya for her compassionate leadership and her successes in streamlining the VCF processes and helping to administer justice for the 9/11 community.
