Pitta & Baione LLP attorney Lian Kuang-Maoga was recently selected among an exclusive group of lawyers as a “Rising Star” in the New York metro area.

This is the fifth year in which Lian has been named to the Super Lawyers list, which is limited to no more than 2.5% of attorneys per state. The designation highlights the exceptional work of a select crop of lawyers based on surveys, reviews by other attorneys and their performance for clients.

Lian, who recently joined the firm, is an experienced trusts and estates lawyer who helps people plan for the future and navigate a wide range of elder law issues. She also assists the families of September 11th responders and survivors with obtaining Victim Compensation Fund benefits.

“I am particularly proud to be recognized as a Super Lawyer this year, as it is my first year with Pitta & Baione LLP,” Lian said. “My own experience as a resident of Lower Manhattan during 9/11 and its aftermath inspired me to dedicate my career to fellow victims of toxins exposure. I bring to Pitta & Baione a background in estate and Medicaid planning, as well as probate and estate administration.”

Helping Clients in Estate Planning and Elder Law

Lian uses a full range of legal tools to help people plan for the future and provide for their loved ones in the unfortunate event of the person’s incapacity or death.

This includes creating wills, trusts, and other legal documents that allow people to make certain decisions about medical treatment and where their assets will go when they die instead of leaving that for a judge to decide later. Lian also has a strong track record of helping people settle a loved one’s estate through the probate process.

Lian has nearly a decade of legal experience, starting with a prominent New York City elder law firm before joining Pitt & Baione.

Assisting Families Seeking 9/11 Benefits

Lian also works with the families of people who were injured in or have contracted illnesses related to the 9/11 attacks. She advises those clients on the potential interplay between 9/11 benefits and other government benefits.

“I represent our clients in Surrogate’s Court to obtain legal authority for legally filing 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund claims on behalf of their family and loved ones at no charge to our clients,’ she said. “I also provide free consultations about government benefit coordination.”

A Lower Manhattan native, Lian is herself a 9/11 survivor. The experience has led her to focus on helping others impacted by one of the darkest days in our country’s history.

“I look forward to another year of advocacy on behalf of 9/11 victims and their families,” Lian said.
