Decades after the devastating terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, countless Americans, many of whom were first responders at the scene, are still suffering life-altering cancers, respiratory illnesses, and other medical conditions as a result of their exposure to dust and debris.
At Pitta & Baione LLP, we want survivors of the 9/11 attacks to know they have not been forgotten. Our latest milestone is a testament to that commitment: we have now recovered over half a billion dollars for victims whose health continues to suffer as a lasting effect of that tragedy.
Our firm is dedicated to helping victims secure much-needed financial help from the Victim Compensation Fund (VCF). “This milestone is not just a number: it’s a testament to our clients’ resilience and our firm’s unwavering commitment to making sure their voices are heard and their losses acknowledged. I remain deeply moved—and profoundly outraged—by the unfathomable suffering that continues to this day as a result of the lies we were told about the safety of 9/11 dust. Each case we handle is a reminder of the devastating human cost of that misinformation. It strengthens my resolve to fight tirelessly for the justice and compensation that these victims and their families deserve,” says partner Christopher Baione.
Partner Vito Pitta added, “As we reflect on this season of Thanksgiving, we are endlessly thankful for the trust and confidence that our clients have placed in us. At Pitta & Baione LLP, we are committed to ensuring that no victim is overlooked and that his or her fight for justice is met with the representation they deserve. While there is no amount of money that can ease the suffering that our clients and their families continue to endure, we are proud of our zealous advocacy, dedication, and hard work, all of which have enabled us to reach this milestone.”
How the “Never Forget the Heroes Act” Helps 9/11 Survivors
To ensure there are sufficient resources to support all 9/11 victims even now, the United States passed the Never Forget the Heroes Act in 2019, giving survivors and their families until October 1, 2090, to file a VCF claim. It also allocates sufficient government funding to pay all claims filed by that deadline.
This legislation is important to Pitta & Baione LLP and our clients. Those affected by the attacks no longer need to worry about the possibility of funds running out before they file a VCF claim, and our firm can continue to guide them through the claims process with confidence. We are proud of what we have helped victims recover, but we also realize that, in many ways, our work is only just beginning.
Why Do You Need a Lawyer to File a Claim?
While you can file a VCF claim on your own, in our years of representing clients we have seen the complexity of the process and how some qualified individuals’ valid claims are still denied for what are often preventable reasons.
Are You Suffering from a 9/11-Related Illness?
At Pitta & Baione LLP, we have made it our mission to stand up for 9/11 survivors and families who still suffer related long-standing health effects associated with their exposure to toxins on that fateful day. It is an honor to help 9/11 victims secure the financial compensation they deserve, and we work hard to help our clients fight for what is fair.
Although we have been able to assist many 9/11 victims and their families in receiving the support they need, we understand there are more who still need help. If you think you may be eligible for compensation or benefits, contact us today to schedule a free consultation.
