Founding partners Matthew J. Baione and Christopher J. Baione have been selected to the 2019 New York Metro Super Lawyers Rising Stars list. Each year, no more than 5% of the lawyers in the state of New York are selected by the research team at Super Lawyers to receive this honor. Matthew and Christopher have earned this distinction through Super Lawyer’s multiphase selection process that involves independent research and peer nominations as well as 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement, including verdicts/settlements, transactions, experience, honors and awards, and education.

Christopher J. Baione is a fellow founding partner of Pitta & Baione LLP and the only principal of a 9/11 compensation firm in the country who has devoted his entire career to representing victims before the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF). As co-manager of the firm’s VCF practice, he handles all aspects of victim representation, including determining eligibility, establishing and proving damages, developing strategies to maximize awards, appearing at evidentiary hearings, forecasting economic losses, reviewing VCF loss calculations, and arguing appeals for increased compensation. A few of Christopher’s wins for his clients include a $2 million award for an NYPD officer suffering from brain cancer and a $1 million award for the family of a Local 282 Teamster suffering from lung cancer. In addition to his work for his clients, Christopher also regularly lectures to community stakeholders about the dangers of 9/11 toxins exposure and the benefits available to survivors through various federal programs.

Matthew J. Baione is an internationally recognized 9/11 victims’ compensation attorney. In addition to being a founding partner of Pitta & Baione LLP, he is also the youngest principal attorney of any 9/11 compensation firm in the country. Matthew manages the firm’s appellate practice and exigent circumstances division. In his appellate practice, he applies his background in litigation to fight for justice on behalf of his clients, which often requires him to appear in appellate hearings to establish eligibility for 9/11-related conditions, prove sufficient exposure to 9/11 toxins, and explain lost earnings. As the manager of the firm’s exigent circumstances division, Matthew represents clients with the most urgent needs, such as those suffering from severe illnesses or who are experiencing extreme financial hardship. Just a few of his successes include awards of over $3 million for a financial executive suffering from metastatic brain cancer; over $1.7 million for a disabled court reporter battling brain cancer; and over $1.1 for a disabled Local 94 operating engineer suffering from late-stage pulmonary fibrosis.

Congratulations to both Matthew and Christopher for this well-deserved recognition of their tireless and dedicated work on behalf of their clients!
